Bee Mine Valentine Tutorial

 

You will need a PSP program.  Get  a 30 day trial at corel.com.
Download the Selections. Download the lace pattern backgrounds, I got one of the lace from http://www.internetclipart.com/backgrounds/backgrounds.htm

 
   
 
Open a canvas 500x450. Load the BE-lace-heart1. Add a new layer and flood fill lace pattern.

Load the BE-lace-heart-shades. Add a raster layer. Flood fill with #000000. Reduce the opacity to 70. Merge the layer down.
Load the BE-lace-heart2. Add a raster layer. Flood fill with duotone red gradient. On the gradient drop down box, change the angle to 49. Effects/ 3D effects/ inner bevel. Settings below.

Load the BE heart-center. Add a raster layer. Effects/ 3D Effects/ Cutout. Settings are Vertical and Horizontal 1, Opacity 75, Blur 100, Shadow color #000000. OK. Add a raster layer. Flood fill with duotone red gradient. On the gradient drop down box, change the angle to 320.. Move this layer down. Merge the Cutout layer down.
Load the BE-heart-highlight. Add a new layer and flood fill with #FFFFFF. Merge this layer down.
Load the BE-heart-frame. Add a raster layer and flood fill with gold gradient. Effects/ 3D effects/ inner bevel, use the settings above.
 

Merge all the layers visible and apply drop shadow. Shadow settings: Vertical -2, Horizontal -5. Opacity 80, Blur 8, Color #000000. You should have an image similar to the image on the right.

Hide this layer.

 

 
Load the BE-flower. Add a raster layer. Apply cutout, change the blur to 25 and color to #4B024C. Add another layer and flood fill with #EC1EEC. Move this layer down. MERGE the cutout layer down.

Load the BE-flower-lines. Add a raster layer and flood fill with #4B024C. Deselect. Go to the layer palette and reduce the opacity to 50.

Load the BE-flower-shades. Add a raster layer and flood fill with #4B024C.
Merge the layer down. Apply drop shadow. Settings: Vertical and Horizontal 2, Opacity 75, Blur 15, color #000000.

Load the BE-petals1. Add a new layer and flood fill the flower on the left with #F9A9FA and #FFFFFF on the right. Load the BE-petals1-shades. Flood fill with #4B024C. Merge the shades layer down.

Repeat this process through the BE-petals-4. Add drop shadow. Use the same settings. You should have an image similar to the image below.

Load the BE-petal-lines. Add a raster layer and flood fill with #4B024C. Deselect. Apply drop shadow. Settings are Vertical and Horizontal 1, Opacity 70, Blur 3 and color #FFFFFF.

Merge all the layers visible. Soften brush, use the settings below. Soften the lines. Apply drop shadow, same settings, just change the Blur to 15.

Load the BE-flower-filament. Add a raster layer and flood fill with #FC840E. Apply inner bevel. Settings below.

Load the BE-anther. Add a raster layer and apply cutout, change the cutout Blur to 8 and color to #000000. Add a raster layer and flood fill with #FF0000. Move this layer down and MERGE the cutout layer down.

Merge the little hearts to the BE-flower-lines2. Apply drop shadow. Settings: Vertical 2, Horizontal 1, Opacity 75 and Blur 8.

Unhide all the layers. We have this image so far.

Load the BE-flower-sepal. Add a raster layer and flood fill with #62931D. Apply Cutout. Settings: Vertical and Horizonal 1/ Opacity 75/ Blur 8, color #081901.

Lighten/ Darken brush. Settings: Shape round, size 31, hardness 100, step 1, density 100, thickness 100, opacity 75. Lighten the sepal.

Load the BE-stems. Add a raster layer and flood fill with #3E2406. Soften brush, use the same settings. Soften the stems.

Load the BE-leaves. Add a raster layer. Apply cutout, change the cutout color to #08190 and Blur 15. Add another layer and flood fill with #A1B65B. Move this layer down and MERGE the cutout layer down to the leaves.

Load the BE-leaves-lines. Add a raster layer and flood fill with #62931D. Deselect. Merge the layers visible. Soften brush, same settings. Soften the leaves.

Merge the leaves to the stems. Apply drop shadow. Settings: Vertical 2, Horizontal 1, Opacity 75, Blur 5, Color #000000.

We have this image so far.

Load the BE-bee-feet. Add a raster layer and flood fill with #000000.

Load the BE-body. Flood fill with #000000.

Load the BE-bee-yellow-shades. Add a raster layer and flood fill with #FBC819.

Load the BE-bee-face. Add a raster layer. Apply cutout, use the same settings. Add a raster layer and flood fill with #FCD1B4. Move this layer down and MERGE the cutout layer down.

Load the BE-eyes-mouth. Add a raster layer and flood fill with #000000.

Load the BE-eyes-shades. Add a raster layer and flood fill with #FFFFFF.

Merge the layers down to the BE-bee-feet. Add drop shadow, same settings.

Load the BE-bee-wing1. Add a raster layer and flood fill with lace-pattern2 or lace-pattern3, your choice, reduce the opacity to 60. Load the BE-wing1-lines. Add a layer and flood fill with #4F4F33 (pick a dark color from the wing pattern for the wing-lines). Merge the lines down. Add drop shadow, reduce the blur 8.

Load the BE-wing2. Add a raster layer and flood fill with lace pattern of your choice, reduce the opacity to 60. Load the BE-wing2-lines. Add a raster layer and flood fill with #4F4F33 (dark color from the the wing lines). Add drop shadow. Merge the layers down to the bee-body.

At this point, make any changes and adjustments. Add your text. Merge the layers visible and save it.
