Valentine Express

You will need PSP program to do this tutorial.  Get a 30 day free at http://www.corel.com.

Download the selections here, unzip and extract it to your PSP Selections file.

Copy and paste the pattern below.

 

Load the "ve-brush-plate". Add a new raster layer and flood fill with color #8 from the color chart. Deselect.

Draw a rectangle selection and make the image selected. Effects/ 3D Effects/ Cutout. Settings below. OK

Click the Lighten/ Darken brush. Settings below. Apply highlights.

Load the "ve-brush-plate-lines". Add a new raster layer and flood fill with color #14. Deselect. Go to the layer palette and reduce the opacity to 35. Effects/ 3D effects/ drop shadow. Settings: Vertical and Horizontal 1/ Opacity 75/ Blur 0/ color #15 from the color chart. Merge the layer down. OK

Load the "ve-large-heart". Add a new raster layer and flood fill with color #7. Deselect. Make a rectangle selection and make the heart selected. Apply Cut out, use the same settings just adjust the Blur to 100. OK Deselect.

Load the "ve-chimney". Add a new raster layer and flood fill with color #7. Deselect. Make a rectangle selection and make the chimney selected. Apply cutout, use the same settings, adjust the Blur to 30. OK. Deselect.

Load the "ve-chimney-highlights". Add a new raster layer and flood fill with color #4. Deselect. Adjust/ Blur/ Gaussian Blur/ Radius 4. OK

Load the "ve-chimney-line". Flood fill with #14. Add a drop shadow. Settings below.

This is what we have so far.

Load the "ve-wheels1". Add a new raster layer and flood fill the first 2 wheels on left with color #1 and the 4 wheels on the right with color #14.

Lighten/ Darken Brush. Settings below.

Apply highlights on the black wheels. Deselect.

 

Load the "ve-wheels2". Add a new raster layer. Flood fill the 2 flowers on the left with color #6, flowers on the middle wheels with #15, and the hearts on the right wheels with #7. Deselect.

Make the "wheels2" selected and apply cutout, change the blur to 10. Apply Drop shadow, use the same settings.

Load the "wheels3". New raster layer and flood fill with color #15 the first 2 wheels on the left, #6 wheels on the middle and #1 wheels on the right. Deselect.

Load the "ve-headlight". Add a raster layer and flood fill with #14. Deselect.

Load the "ve-head-lamp-post". Flood fill with #14. Deselect.

Load the "ve-head-lamp1". Flood fill with #14. Deselect.

Load the "ve-head-lamp2". Add a raster layer and flood fill with #2. Deselect. Make it selected again and apply cutout, use the same settings.

Lighten/ Darken brush. Lighten the center. Deselect.

Load the "ve-head-lamp3". Flood fill with #14.

Load the "ve-head-lamp-4". Add a raster layer and flood fill with #11. Deselect. Make it selected again and apply cutout, change the blur to 5.

Lighten/ Darken brush. Lighten the center.

Load the "ve-horn-post". Flood fill with #14.

Load the "ve-horn-string". Flood fill with #14.

Load the "ve-horn-bell". Add a raster layer and flood fill with #3. Deselect. Make it selected again and apply cutout, change the blur to 10. OK

Lighten/ Darken brush. Lighten the center. We have this image so far.

Load the "ve-caboose1". Add a raster layer and flood fill with #14.

Load the "ve-caboose2". Add a raster layer and flood fill with #5. Deselect. Make it selected again and apply cutout, change the Opacity to 75 and Blur to 30.

Load the "ve-caboose3". Add a raster layer and flood fill with #3. Deselect. Make it selected again and apply cutout. Lighten/ Darken brush size 42 and lighten the center. Add your text.

Load the "ve-engine". Add a raster layer and flood fill with #6. Deselect. Make it selected again and apply cutout, change the Blur to 50.

Load the "ve-engine-highlights". Add a raster layer and flood fill with #4. Deselect. Apply Gaussian Blur, use the same settings.

Load the "ve-engine-lines". Add a raster layer and flood fill with #14. Deselect. Reduce the opacity to 50 and apply drop shadow. We have this image so far.


 


Load the "ve-engine-missle". Add a raster layer and flood fill with #7. Deselect and make it selected again. Apply cutout, change the Blur to 10. Lighten/ Darken brush, size 7, apply highlight to the center.

Load the "ve-cab1". Add a raster layer and flood fill with #14.

Load the "ve-cab2". Add a raster layer and flood fill with #16. We have this image so far.

Load the "ve-cab-roof". Add a raster layer and flood fill with #17. Lighten/ Darken brush/ highlight the roof. Deselect.

Load the "ve-bear-hand". Add a raster layer and flood fill with #8. Deselect. Make it selected again and apply cutout, change the shadow color to #17.

Airbrush/ size 12/ color 18. Airbrush around the hand. Smudge tool/ size 11/ hardness 50/ step 10/ density 100/ thickness 100/ opacity 55. Smudge the airbrush paint to blend.

Pen tool/ Freehand/ size 1/ add lines to separate fingers. Convert to raster layer. Apply drop shadow, color white, opacity 25 and blur 1.
Load the "ve-bear-shirt". Add a raster layer and flood fill with the pattern that goes with this tutorial. Deselect.

Make it selected again and apply cutout, change the blur to 20 and color to #13. OK

Load the "ve-bear-shirt-lines". Add a raster layer and flood fill with #13. Deselect. Adjust/ Blur/ Gaussian Blur/ Radius 1. Adjust the opacity to 50.

Click on the "ve-bear-shirt". Lighten/ Darken brush/ size 9. Lighten between the shirt lines. Merge the "ve-bear-shirt-lines" down.
 
Load the "ve-bear-head". Add a raster layer and flood fill with #8. Add raster layer. Airbrush/ size 15/ color #18 and #99815B. Airbrush the head as shown on the screen shot. ve9

 

 

Smudge Brush. Settings below.

Load the "ve-bear-ears-line". Add a raster layer and flood fill with #14. Deselect and reduce the opacity to 45.

Load the "ve-bear-face-shade". Add a raster layer and flood fill with #15. Deselect. Adjust/ Blur/ Gaussian Blur/ Radius 3.

Load the "ve-bear-eyelashes". Add a raster layer and floodfill with #14.

Load the '"ve-bear-eyes1". Add a raster layer and flood fill with #9. Load the "ve-bear-eyes2", add a raster layer and flood fill with #10.

Load the "ve-bear-eyes3". Add a raster layer and flood fill with #14. Load the "ve-bear-eyes4 and flood fill with #15.

Load the "ve-bear-mouth". Add a raster layer and flood fill with #6.

Load the "ve-mouth'line". Add a raster layer and flood fill with #14. Load the "ve-bear-nose". Add a raster layer and flood fill with #6. Apply cutout, Blur 8. Lighten/ Darken brush. Lighten the center.

Let's enhance the face. Make the bear head selected. Smudge brush/ use the same settings. Smudge the airbrushed layer. Add more paint to darken the shade. Then smudge it to blend.
Airbrush #9 on the cheek, around the eyes and ears.  

Smudge the paint to blend. Spread the white shade around. When you're satisfy with it, deselect  

Load the "ve-bear-hat". Add a raster layer and flood fill with the pattern that goes with this tutorial. Deselect. Make it selected again and apply cutout, change the blur to 30.

Load the "ve-bear-hat-lines". Add a raster layer and flood fill with #10. Deselect. Adjust/ Blur/ Gaussian Blur 1.

Click back on the hat and lighten between the lines. Merge the lines down.

Load the "ve-bear-hat-band". Add a raster layer and flood fill with the pattern. Deselect and make it selected again. Apply cutout. Change the blur to 5. Deselect.

Lighten/ Darken brush. Lighten the center.

Click on the hat. Burn brush/ size 10/ hardness 50/ density 100/ thickness 100/ opacity 100. Darken the hat just below the band.

Click on the bear-shirt and darken below the bear-chin.

Click the top layer on the layer palette. Load the "ve-cab-door1". Add a raster layer and flood fill with #14. Load the "ve-cab-door2". Add a raster layer and flood fill with #1. Deselect. Make it selected again. Apply cutout,
change the blur to 15.

Load the "ve-cab-door3". Add a raster layer and flood fill with #7. Deselect. Make it selected again and apply cutout..
Load the "ve-cab-door4". Add a raster layer and flood fill with #9. Deselect.


Make it selected again and apply cutout. Lighten/ Darken brush. Lighten the center.

You should have an image that look exactly or similar to the image on the right.

 

You may add your text or message and enhance the image at this point before merging all the layers down.

Hide the background layer. Click on any open layers and merge the layers visible. Save your image.
