Pumpkin Patch Tutorial

This tutorial is written for PSP8 but can be tried on the earlier or later versions.
You will need a PSP program. Get a free trial from Corel.com.
You need to download the selections for this tutorial. Download and extract it to your SELECTIONS file.

We will be using this color chart.  You might want to copy and paste it to you open PSP program.

 
Open a canvas 600x400 transparent. Load the selection "leaves1". Flood fill the leaf from the left, use color 7, 4 and 6. Deselect.  
Make a rectangle selection and make the leaves selected. Effects/ 3D effects/ Cutout. Settings/ Vertical 2/ Horizontal 1/ Opacity 65/ Blur 40/ Shadow color #15260E/ fill interior unchecked. OK
Load the selection "leaves1-veins". Go to the layer palette and adjust the opacity to 25. Apply drop shadow. Settings Vertical and Horizontal 1/ Opacity 50/ Blur 1/ Color #ffffff(white). OK  
Make the leaves1 active on the layer palette. Lighten/ Darken tool/ shape round/ size 12/ hardness 50/ step 25/ density 100/ thickness 100/ opacity 100. Apply highlights on the leaves.

Merge the leaves1 veins to the leaves.

 
Load the selections "leaves2". Add a new raster layer, from the left flood fill with 9 and 1. Deselect.

Make a rectangle selection and make the leaves 2 selected. Apply Cutout. Use the same settings.

 
Load the selections "leaves2-veins". Add a new raster layer and flood fill with color 11. Reduce the opacity to 25 and add drop shadow. Use the same settings. Deselect.
Make the leaves2 active on the layer palette. Apply highlights. Merge the layer leaves2-veins down.  
   
Load the selection "leaves 3. Add a new raster layer. From the left, flood fill the leaves with color 2, 3, and 7. Deselect.
Make a rectangle selection and make the leaves 3 selected. Apply cutout, Change the shadow color to #000000 and Blur to 50. OK  
Load the selection "leaves3-veins". Add a new raster layer and flood fill with color 11. Reduce the opacity to 25 and apply drop shadow. Deselect. Merge the layer down.
Lighten/ Darken tool/ change the size to 20 and apply highlights.  
   
Load the "pumpkin1" selection. Add a new raster layer and flood fill with color 10.

Load the selection "pumpkin1-lines". Add a new raster layer and flood fill with color 8. Deselect.
   
Make the pumpkin 1 selected. Add a new raster layer. Airbrush size 10. Airbrush with color 1, 9 and 12.  
 

Smudge setting.

 
Smudge the image to blend the colors. Deselect and merge the smudged layer down.  
   
Reduce the pumpkin lines opacity to 30 and merge the layer down.
   
Load the selection "pumpkin1-leaves". Add a raster layer and flood fill with color 4. Deselect.
   
Make a rectangle selection and make the pumpkin1-leaves selected. Apply cutout. Change the Blur to 20. OK.

Load the selection "pumpkin1-leaves-veins". Add a raster layer and flood fill with color 11. Reduce the opacity to 25. Apply drop shadow
   
Apply highlights on the leaves. Merge the leaves veins down.  
   
Load the selection "pumpkin1-stems". Add a raster layer and flood fill with color 4. Deselect. Make it selected again, effects/ 3D effects/ cutout, reduce the blur 10. OK

Lighten/ Darken tool. Apply highlights. Deselect		  
   
Load the selection " pumpkin-vines". Add a raster layer and flood fill with color 6. Deselect.

Load the selection "pumpkin2". Add a raster layer and flood fill with color 10.

   
Load the selection "pumpkin2-lines". Add a raster layer and flood fill with color 8. Reduce the opacity to 50 and apply drop shadow.
   
Make the "pumpkin2" layer selected. Add a raster layer and airbrush with color 1, 9 and 12.  
   
Smudge the image to blend colors. Merge the pumpkin2-lines and smudged layer down.  
   
Load the selection "pumpkin2-stem". Flood fill with color 8. Lighten/ Darken brush and add highlight.

Load the "pumpkin2-leaf". Add a raster layer and flood fill with color 4. Deselect. Make it selected again and apply cutout, change the Blur to 15. OK

Load the "pumpkin2-leaf-veins". Add a raster layer and flood fill with color 11. Reduce the opacity to 25 and apply drop shadow.
Apply highlights on the leaves. Merge the lines down.  
   
Load the "pumpkin2-vines". Add a raster layer and flood fill with color 7. Deselect. You may add drop shadows if you desire. Merge all the layers visible. Add noise, Gaussian 12/ Monochrome checked. Add highlights on the pumpkins if necessary. Save your image.
