Let's draw a vector bear shape using
preset shape ellipse and rectangle.
Let's draw the ellipses and rectangles one
by one. Build our image from the first ellipse. The screen
shots are the actual size of the image. If you want to use
them as a guide , you are welcome to copy and paste them.
Start by opening a canvas size 400x400. Set
the preset shape size 4/ color #000000, no fill. Draw an
ellipse on the center of the canvas. Convert the ellipse to
raster layer.

|
| |
| Draw
another ellipse, edit the nodes, copy and paste as a new
layer, Mirror image it and place it to the opposite side,
merge the vector layer down then convert to raster layer.

|
| You
should have 3 ellipses on the canvas.
 |
| |
| Draw an
ellipse inside one of the ellipses above. Edit the nodes,
copy and paste as a new layer, mirror image it, then place
it inside the opposite ellipse. Merge the layer down and
convert to raster layer. |
|
| Draw a
big ellipse. Add 2 nodes from the left. Pull the center node
down. Edit the nodes and convert to raster layer.
 |
| |
| Draw an
ellipse. Edit the nodes if necessary. Copy and paste as a
new layer. Place this ellipse on the opposite side. Merge
this layer down and convert to raster layer.

|
|
|
Activate the fill properties, change the color to #000000.
Draw an ellipse inside one of the 2 small ellipses. This is
going to be the eyes. Copy and paste as a new layer. Place
the copy on inside the opposite ellipse. Merge the layer
down and convert to raster layer.
 |
| |
|
Deactivate the fill properties. Draw
another ellipse. Edit the nodes. Pull the top node slightly
down. Pull the right node arrow slightly to the right and
the left arrow slightly to the left. This is going to be the
muzzle. Convert to raster layer.
 |
| |
|
Activate the fill properties. Add an ellipse. This is going
to be the mouth and nose. Add 6 nodes. Edit the ellipse as
shown on the screen shot. Convert to raster layer.
 |
| |
|
Deactivate the fill properties. Add a rectangle. Edit the
rectangle as shown on the screen shot. Hold the Ctrl-key
down, pull the left top node down. See figure b. Add nodes.
See figure c. Edit the nodes. See figure d. Change the added
node type to Symmetric. See figure e.

| Copy
and paste as a new layer. Mirror image and place on the
opposite side. Merge the layer down and convert to raster
layer.
 |
| |
| Add
another ellipse. Copy and paste to the opposite hand. Merge
this layer down and convert to raster layer.
 |
| |
| Add
another ellipse. This should be inside the ellipse on the
hand. Copy and paste as a new layer, place it inside the
opposite ellipse. Merge this layer down and convert to
raster layer.
 |
| |
| Add
another ellipse. Turn it slightly to the left. Edit the
nodes. Convert to raster layer. Copy and paste it as new
layer. Mirror image it and place it on the opposite side.
 |
| |
| Add
another ellipse. Edit the nodes. Copy and paste as a new
layer. Mirror image it. Place it on the opposite side. Merge
this layer down and convert to raster layer.
Pen tool, point to point. Change the line style to
zipper. Add a line on the forehead and body. Edit the nodes.
Convert to raster layer.
Add the eyelashes, copy and paste. Mirror image it and place
it on the other eye. Merge this layer down and convert to
raster layer. This is the actual look and size of the image.

We are
done creating the shape and all it needs are some fills. Use
the header image as a pattern.
Tips: When adding flood fills on the ellipses and
rectangles, do not forget to modify the selection and expand
it to 1. Then add a new raster layer and add the fill, move
the fill down so the line will show up better. Or if you
don't want the line to show up, just simply expand the
selection to 2, hit delete to remove the line, no need to
add a raster layer, just add your fill.
I use lighten darken, to put highlights on the eyes and nose
and mouth. Just adjust the brush size when putting
highlights or lightening an image. Brush size depends on the
size of the image.
I applied cutout on all the parts except the eyes and
the nose.
I also lightened the body, the ears, arms and legs. I
freehand drawn the bow, and saved it for you in case you
decided to add bow on her head.
I would like to see how your work turned out. It's a
challenge, make a tag, a card, tube it. Use it with other
image or use it by itself. Good luck. End of tutorial
