Play Time Tutorial

 
 
You will need a PSP program to do this tutorial.  Get a free trial from corel.com.  You may download the textured background fill I've used for this tutorial or you may use your own fill.  You may download it here. Download the selections here.
This tutorial is written for PSP 9 but will work on other PSP versions. 

Open a canvas size 500x400, transparent. Load the PT-back-wheel. Add a raster layer and flood fill with #44c0b6. Effects/ 3D Effects, Inner bevel.   Settings below

Adjust/ Brightness and Contrast. Brightness -50, Contrast 0.

Load the PT-cart-floor1. Add a raster layer and flood fill with wood texture of your choice or use mine. If you use the wood texture that came with this tutorial, you need to adjust the scale to 250. Adjust brightness to -25. Deselect and reselected. Apply cutout. Settings are Vertical and Horizontal 1, Opacity 50, Blur 25, shadow color #000000. Lighten Darken brush size 45, hardness 50, step 25, density 100, thickness 100, opacity 75. Lighten the center.

Load the PT-cart-floor2. Add a raster layer and flood fill with wood texture. Deselect and reselected. Apply cutout, increase the blur to 30. Lighten-darken brush, same settings. Lighten the center.

Click on the cart-back-floor. Make it selected and add a raster layer. Airbrush settings: size 19, hardness 10, step 10, density 26, thickness 100, opacity 55. Airbrush the image as shown on the screen shot.

Adjust/ Blur/ Gaussian Blur. Blur 3. Deselect and click back on the very top layer.

 

Load the PT-front-wheel. Add a raster layer and flood fill with #44c0b6. Apply inner bevel, use the same settings.
Load the PT-wheel-shades. Add a raster layer and flood fill with #004040. Go to the layer palette and reduce the opacity to 75.

Load the PT-wheel-knobs1. Add a raster layer and flood fill with #ff4040. Deselect and reselected. Apply cutout, reduce the Blur to 15. Lighten the center.

(Note: You must always reduce the lighten/ darken brush size when lightening a small or large image. )

Load the PT-wheel-knobs2. Add a raster layer and flood fill with #000000. Add a drop shadow. Settings: Vertical and Hotizontal 1, Opacity 60, Blur 10, Color #ffffff. (white). Lighten/ darken brush, apply highlights.
You should have an image similar to the image below so far.  

Load the PT-bunny-tail. Add a raster layer and flood fill with #FFFFFF. Deselect and reselected. Apply cutout, change the opacity to 100, blur 10 and shadow color to #e48b00. Deselect and apply eye candy, swirl. Settings below.

Load the PT-feet-back-ear. Add a raster layer and flood fill with #e1ae59. Deselect and reselected. Apply cutout, opacity 100, blur 15, color #66462c. Apply noise, Gaussian checked, Noise 10%, Monochrome unchecked.

Load the PT-stirring-rod1. Add a raster layer and flood fill with wood texture. Deselect and reselected. Apply cutout, reduce the blur to 10, color #000000.Lighten the center.

Load the PT-stirring-rod2. Add a raster layer and flood fill with wood texture. Deselect and reselected. Apply cutout, use the same settings. Lighten the center.

Load the PT-stirring rod3. Add a raster layer and flood fill with wood texture. Deselect and reselected. Apply cutout, same settings, reduce the blur to 5. Lighten the center.

Load the PT-bunny-shirt1. Add a raster layer and flood fill with a colored fabric texture of your choice. Deselect and reselected. Apply Gaussian Blur, reduce the Blur to 20, shadow color #030441. Lighten the center.

Load the PT-bunny-pants. Add a raster layer. Flood fill with denim texture or any color of your choice. Select and deselected. Apply cutout, increase the blur to 50.

Load the PT-bunny-head-hands. Add a raster layer and flood fill with #e1ae59. Deselect and reselected. Apply cutout, same settings, increase the blur to 25.Add noise, same settings.

Load the PT-bunny-eye-shade1. Add a raster layer and flood fill with #FFFFFF. Deselect. Adjust/ Blur/ Gaussian Blur. Blur 4.

Load the PT-bunny-eye-shade2. Add a raster layer and flood fill with ##ac865c. Deselect. Apply Gaussian Blur 1.

Load the PT-bunny-eye1. Add a raster layer and flood fill with #FFFFFF. Load the PT-bunny-eye2. Flood fill with #609bae. Load the PT-bunny-eye3. Flood fill with #000000. Load the PT-bunny-eye4. Flood fill with #FFFFFF. Load the PT-bunny-eye-line and flood fill with #000000.

Load the PT-bunny-muzzle. Add a raster layer and flood fill with #FFFFFF. Deselect and apply blur 1.

Load the PT-bunny-nose. Add a raster layer and flood fill with #ea6699. Deselect and reselected. Apply cutout, reduce the opacity to 50 and blur to 5. Lighten the center.

Paint brush size 2, color #66462c. Paint 3 freckles on the bunny's cheek. Pen tool, freehand, size 1, color #000000. Draw 3 whiskers. Convert to raster layer. Adjust/ Blur/ Motion Blur. Angle 52, strength 35.

Load the PT-bunny-left-ear. Add a raster layer and flood fill with #e1ae59. Deselect and reselected. Apply cutout, change the opacity to 100 and blur to 25, color #66462c. Deselect.


Selection tool, freehand. Trim the ear as shown on the screen shot. Deselect .
 

Smudge brush, size 20, hardness 100, step 27, density 58, thickness 100, opacity 61. Smudge the image to blend. Add noise, same settings.  

Load the PT-bunny-left-inner-ear. Add a raster layer and flood fill with #FFFFFF. Deselect. Apply Gaussian Blur 3.
Load the PT-bunny-left-inner-ear selection again. Add a raster layer. Airbrush size 19, hardness 10, step 10, density 26, thickness 100, opacity 55. Airbrush the image with #fcb6d0, #f38db5 and #e35580. See screen shot.

Apply Gaussian Blur 3. Pen tool, freehand, size 1. color #66462c. Freehand
draw a line as shown on the screen shot. Convert to raster layer.

 

 

Load the PT-bunny-shirt2. Add a raster layer and flood fill with the fabric texture used for shirt 1. Deselect and reselected. Apply Cutout, reduce the blur to 25. Lighten the center part of the shirt.

Load the PT-bunny-suspender. Add a raster layer and flood fill with denim texture, reduce the texture scale to 50. Deselect and reselected. Apply cutout, reduce the Blur to 15. Lighten the center.

Load the PT-bunny-suspender-button. Add a raster layer and flood fill with any color of your choice. Deselect and reselected. Apply cutout, blur 5, color #004000.

Paint brush, color #000000, size 2. Deselect. Add a raster layer. Place 2 dots on the button. Apply drop shadow. Vertical and Horizontal 1, Opacity 100, Blur 1, color #FFFFFF.

You should have this image so far  

Load the Pt-chick-left-foot-wing. Add a raster layer and flood fill with #ffff00 on the wing and #ffb618 on the foot. Deselect and reselected. Apply cutout, Blur 15, color #a25b00. Apply Noise, use the same settings.

Load the PT-chick-right-foot. Add a raster layer and flood fill with #ffb618. Deselect and reselected. Apply Cutout, same settings.

Load the PT-chick-body. Add a raster layer and flood fill with #ffff00. Deselect and reselected. Apply cutout, increase the blur to 25. Apply noise.

Load the PT-chick-right-wing. Add a raster layer and flood fill with #ffff00. Deselect and reselected. Apply cutout, reduce the blur to 15. Deselect. Selection too, freehand. Trim the wing as shown on the screen shot. Deselect.  

Smudge brush, same settings. Smudge the image to blend. Add noise. Load the Pt-chick-bow1. Add a raster layer and flood fill with #ea6699. Deselect and reselected. Apply Cutout, same settings, shadow color #400040. Lighten the center.

Repeat this process throughout the bow parts. On the PT-bow5, cutout, reduce the blur to 5.

Load the PT-chick-head. Add a layer. Flood fill with #ffff00. Deselect and reselected. Apply cutout, increase the blur to 25 and change shadow color to #a25b00. Add noise.

Load the Pt-chick-bottom-beak. Add a layer and flood fill with #de9406. Deselect and reselected. Apply cutout, reduce the blur to 5, shadow color #a25b00. Lighten the center.

Repeat the process on PT-chick-top-beak. On the cutout, increase the blur to 10. Lighten the center.

Load the PT-chick-eye-shades. Add a raster layer and flood fill with #7a5336.Deselect and Apply blur, reduce the blur to 2.
 
Load the PT-chick-eye1. Add a raster layer and flood fill with #ffffff. Load the PT-chick-eye2. Flood fill with #000000. Load the PT-chick-eye3. Flood fill with #ffffff. Preset shape, ellipse, size 1, color #000000. Draw an ellipse to add detail to the eye.  

Load the PT-lines. Add a raster layer and flood fill with #000000. Go to the layer palette and reduce the opacity to 60
You should have an image similar to the image on the right.  

Load the PT-rope. Add a new raster layer and flood fill with rope texture. Send this layer to the bottom. Deselect and reselected. Apply cutout, Blur 15, color #400000. Lighten the center.
Let's enhance the image. Click on the pants. Make it selected. Airbrush, use the same settings, size 50. Add a raster layer. Airbrush the image as shown on the screen shot.  

Apply Gaussian Blur 5. Deselect. Lighten the pants as shown on the screen shot.  

Load the PT-pants-fold line. Add a raster layer and flood fill with #000040. Add drop shadow, vertical and horizontal 1, opacity 60, blur 2, color #ffffff.
Click back on the pants. Lighten the fold. Burn brush, size 10, hardness 21, step 25, density 100, thickness 100, opacity 40. Darken the pants as shown on the screen shot.  

Make the left-arm selected, or PT-bunny-shirt2. Airbrush, same settings, reduce the brush size to 5. Airbrush the image as shown on the screen shot. pt14. Apply Gaussian Blur 3.  

Click on the back wheel, add a raster layer. Picture tube, cloud2, scale 10. Place a cloud on the image. Adjust/ Hue and Saturation, Colorized. Hue 33, Saturation 81. Adjust, Brightness and Contrast. Brightness -18. Go to the layer palette and reduce the opacity to 75.  

We are done at this point, unless you want to enhance it some more. If you are satisfied with the result, you may merge the layers visible and save it as psp or picture tube.
