Creating and Saving Preset Shape Tutorial

This tutorial will show you how to make a preset shape using the pen tool and adjusting nodes to obtain the right shape you need.
Open a 600x600canvas, transparent. Pen tool/ freehand, use any color for the foreground and fill. Draw the petals as shown on the screen shot.

Edit the nodes to obtain the desire shape. Note, this should be only one layer. See the layer palette screen shot.

To create another vector layer, you'll have to right click on the "New Path" and click on "select" to deselect it. Notice that the "select" on the drop down menu is checked. When you click on it, this should unchecked it and will allow you to create another object and a new path for this object.

Or, click on layers, create a new vector layer. Then merge the new vector layer down so, you'll only have 1 vector layer when saving it as a preset shape later.
Let's add the center part of the flower. Change the fill color to any color you desire. Pen tool/ freehand. Freehand draw the ellipse and edit the nodes.

Notice that on the layer palette, a new path was created. See screen shot.

Now, right-click on the new added path and click on the checked "select" option. Let's draw a stem for the flowers.
Pen tool/ freehand, tracking 8/ color #388f03, no fill/ size 8.  Freehand draw the stems. Edit the nodes. Move the New Path to the bottom. To move it, left click and hold the mouse and drag the new path down to the bottom.
Deselect the "New Path" and create a new path. This path will be the leaves. Change the fill color to #b0c30a and size to 1. Freehand draw the leaves. Edit the nodes and move this new path down to the bottom. See the screen shot

Tip: you might want to name the path as you create a new image. For example you are creating leaves, name the path "leaves". This way, it will be easier to find that path whenever you want to change the colors or fill.

To put shades on the flower, deselect the path you just created and create a new path for your shades. Pen tool/ freehand size 1/ tracking 1/ color #fd8f0d. Free hand draw the image, edit the nodes if needed. Move this path below the center of the flower and name it "flower shades".

Deselect the flower shades path. Change the foreground color to #00000 and fill color to #a0c50b. Pen tool size 1/ freehand. Draw lines on the leaves. Move this layer above the leaves and name it "leaves-shades".

Hmmm.. Let's add another shade to the flower. Change the foreground and fill color to #ff0000. Freehand draw lines on the flower. Move this new path below the flower shades.

You should have 7 paths, 1 vector layer.
Now, right click on any of the paths, and choose "select all" from the drop down menu. Notice the selections on the canvas? That means the vector layer has been selected.

Right, click again on any of the selected path and on the drop down menu choose "Group".

Name this group. I named mine "Elenas-flower". Now click on file, Export, Shape. A new window should pop out and enter the file name. File name should be the same as the group name. Click OK. Now, let's see if it save it on your preset shape. Press the preset shape icon.

Locate the file you just saved. Check the "Retain style, anti-alias and create as a vector". Open a new canvas and place that shape on the canvas. If you want to edit any of the paths, just click on that path and then click the pen tool. You should be able to edit nodes, change sizes and colors, then resave it.

You can also merge this layer visible and save it as a picture tube.

If you want to convert each layer to raster layer for you to be able to apply cutout or airbrush the image, you'll have to cut and paste each layer to a new canvas.
