Easy Sunflower Tutorial

This tutorial is written for PSPX but can be tried on earlier versions.

Copy and paste this pattern

 
Open a canvas 400x500. Change the foreground and fill color #f5b831. Preset shape/ round rectangle.

Place a round rectangle on the canvas. Add 1 node on the top center and bottom center, 1 node on each sides.

 
   
Slightly pull the top center node upward, the bottom center node downward. Hold the Shift key down and click right-click on the top node and bottom node, then right-click/ node type/ symmetric. Pull the node arrow out to give it a rounded shape. Slightly pull the 2 side nodes inward. Convert to raster layer.  
   
Cut and paste the image as a new image. Set this

 image aside or minimize it, we will use it again later. Paste the image on the canvas as a new raster layer. The image should be on the center of the canvas.

Paste another layer. Image/ Free rotate/ direction right/ degrees 22.50 and click OK.

 

Follow the rest here.  Paste each petal as a new layer then rotate them according to the chart.

Now that you have all the petals. Merge all the layers visible.

 
   
Make the layer selected and apply inner bevel. Settings below.

 

   
While it's still selected/ Click on selections/ Modify/ Contract by 1. Invert the selection and flood fill with #800000. DESELECT.  
   

Now open the minimized petal, make it selected and flood fill with #f7e08f. Copy and paste it on the canvas above the merged dark yellow layer. Image/ free rotate/ 11.25 degrees right.
   

Do the rest as follow:  Paste new layer and rotate according to the chart.

  Ok now you have the second layer of the sunflower. Hide the the first merged layers and right-click on any open remaining layers and merge visible.

   
Apply inner bevel.

 

  Make it selected/ Selections/ Contract by 1. Invert the selection and flood fill with #800000. Deselect.

   
Unhide the other layer. You should have this image.  
   
Preset shape/ ellipse. Use the pattern background that goes with this tutorial for foreground and fill. Place an ellipse on the center of the flower. Convert to raster layer.
   
Make the ellipse selected. Selections/ contract by 5. Effects/ Texture Effects/ Texture and choose the pattern "Snake 01". OK Apply inner bevel.  
   
Invert the selection. Flood fill with gold gradient. Apply inner bevel. Change the Smoothness to 50 and Depth to 75. OK

While it's still selected click on Adjust/ Brightness and Contrast/ Brightness 35/ Contrast 0.

 
   
You may add drop shadow or leave it as it is. Merge all the layers visible. Move the flower up a little so we can add some leaves and stem.

Pen tool/ Freehand/ size 12/ foreground color #008000/ no fill. Freehand draw the stems. Convert to raster layer. Move the layer down.

 
   
Pen tool/ Freehand/ size 1/ foreground and fill color #008000. Freehand draw the leaves Convert to raster layer. Make half of the leaves selected. Apply brightness and contrast. Use the same settings.  
   
Make a copy of the merged flower and paste as a new layer, resize them and place them on the stems.


Merge the layers visible. Save your image.
