Spool and Needle Tutorial

 
Written for PSPX.    Download the selections and extract to your selection file.
 
Open a canvas 600x600 transparent. Selections>Load-Save-Selections/ Load selections from disk>locate the spool file and choose ellipse1. Add a raster layer, name it ellipse1 and flood fill with wood pattern.

Adjust>Brightness and Contrast>Brightness -50/ contrast 0. Effects>3D Effects>Inner bevel. Settings below.



Load the ellipse2. Add a raster layer, name it ellipse2 and flood fill with wood pattern. Apply inner bevel use the same settings.

Load the rectangle selection. Add a raster layer, name it rectangle and flood fill with thread pattern. Deselect and make it selected by using the selection tool/ rectangle. Effect>3D effects>cutout. Settings below.



Load the ellipse 3. Add a raster layer, name it ellipse3 and flood fill with wood pattern. Adjust>Brightness and Contrast>Brightness -10/ Contrast 0. Apply Inner Bevel.

Load the ellipse 4. Add a raster layer, name it ellipse4 and flood fill with wood pattern. Adjust>Brightness and Contrast>Brightness -75/ Contrast 0. Apply Inner Bevel.

Load the ellipse 5. Add a raster layer, name it ellipse5 and flood fill with wood pattern. Adjust Brightness and Contrast/ Brightness -10/ Contrast 0. Apply Inner Bevel.

Load the ellipse 6. Add a raster layer, name it ellipse6 and flood fill with wood pattern. Adjust>Brightness and Contrast>Brightness -130/ Contrast 0.

Click on Lighten/ Darken Brush. Use the settings below.



Lighten the half of the ellipse 6. Deselect.

Click on the ellipse5 from the layer pallet. Lighten the ellipse to give it an old look.

Click on the ellipse 4. Highlight the part shows on the screen shot.

Load the needle selection. Add a raster layer and flood fill with white. Effects/ Plugins/ SuperBladepro/ silver.9q9. Deselect

Image/ Free Rotate/ 90 right. Move the needle below the spool. Copy and paste as a new layer.

Image/ Free Rotate/ 45 left. Place the needle against the spool. Selection tool/ rectangle. Make selection on the center of the needle and hit delete.

Add a raster layer. Paint brush/ size 2/ color black. Put a dot on the cuts. Adjust/ Blur/ Gaussian Blur 4. Merge the layer down.

Change the foreground color to the color of your thread. Make a squiggly line from the spool to the eye of the needle and let it hang down.

Click on the freehand selection. See the screen shot for a selection. Make sure that the needle layer is selected then click the thread and hit delete. Deselect.



Click on the rectangle. Lighten/ darken tool, size 11, hardness 12, step 10, density 100, thickness 100, rotation 0, opacity 50. Trace the place where the needle was cut. Merge your layers visible. Save your image.
