This tutorial is written
for PSPX but can be tried on earlier or later version.
First we need to create a gradient. If you are on "color", change it
to gradient. On gradient property, click "edit". On gradient editor,
select "New" and name your gradient as "cardboard" and click OK.
You will use these 2 colors. #e4c8a1 and #8f6437. Alternate these
colors. See the screen shot.

Now that you have the gradient, let's start.
Open a canvas 600x600 transparent. Click on the
cardboard gradient, the angle should be in 0, Repeats 1, Invert
checked.
Add a raster layer and name it "cardboard1", flood fill the
canvas with the card board gradient. Add a raster layer and name it
"cardboard 2" flood fill with #d7caaf. Go to the layer
palette and reduce the opacity to 75. Adjust/ Add/Remove Noise/ Add
Noise/ Uniform/ 10%/ monochrome checked.
Add raster layer and name it "cardboard 3" flood fill with
#ebcfa7. Add noise 10%.
Move the raster cardboard 2 a little to the right. do the
same thing with the cardboard 3. You should have the image
similar to the image below. screen shot 1

Selection Tools/ Freehand selection (lasso)/ point to point/ feather
25/ smoothing 10/ ant-alias checked.
Make a point to point selection on cardboard 2. See screen
shot below. Then hit delete.

Now drag the cardboard 3 and move it to the
left and hit delete. Drag the cardboard 3 back to the
right. Deselect.
Add a drop shadow on cardboard 2. Settings are: Vertical 1/
horizontal -8/ opacity 74/ blur 6/ color #ffffff. Your final image
should look similar to the image below.

Tip: If you want your cardboard to look more realistic, use a stained
paper for the top layer.
Save your image.
