PSP St. Pat's Bear Tutorial

You will need a PSP program.  Get a 30 trial at corel.com.  You also need to do my Bear Tutorial before you can do this tutorial or you may use your own bear graphic.  Download the cauldron here. Ok. Let's start!

 
Open the bear file. Hide the b-arms and legs, hand and feet. Click on the bear body.

Freehand draw the image as shown on the screen shot. Edit the nodes and convert to raster layer.

Pen tool/ freehand/ line style zipper. Foreground #000000 and no fill. Freehand draw a line on the rectangle. Convert to raster layer. Merge the layer down.

   
   
Pen tool/ Free hand/ foreground and fill color #018b01. Freehand draw the body suit. Edit the nodes and convert to raster layer. Notice the screen shot has no fill? I hide it so I can see the nodes better.

Then after I edited the nodes, I will unhide the fill then convert it to raster layer.

 
   
Make the layer selected. Effects/ 3D effects/ Cut out. Settings/ Vertical and Horizontal 2/ Opacity 70/ Blur 75 and Shadow color #000000. OK Deselect.  
   
Pen tool/ Freehand/ Foreground and fill color #40ff40. Freehand draw the collars. Edit the nodes and convert to raster layer. Make the layer selected and apply Change the Blur to 30.

Freehand draw the other collar. Edit the nodes and convert to raster layer.

 
   
Make the layers selected and apply Cutout. Change the opacity to 50. Merge the layer down and Deselect. Apply drop shadow/ settings: Vertical and Horizontal 1, Opacity 50, Blur 2, color #000000.  
   
Unhide the right leg. Image/ Free rotate/ Direction Right/ Degrees 75. Pen tool/ Freehand/ foreground and fill #018b01. Freehand draw the pants. Edit the nodes and convert to raster layer.

Make the layer selected and apply cutout, change the opacity to 70. DESELECT

   
   
Unhide the right foot. Image/ Fee rotate. Direction Right/ Degrees 40. Unhide the left-sole. Free rotate to right at 25 degrees.

Click back the right-leg-pant. Pen tool/ Freehand/ foreground and fill color to #40ff40. Freehand draw the pant fold. Edit the nodes and convert to raster layer.

 

 
   
Click back the right-leg-pant. Pen tool/ Freehand/ foreground and fill color to #40ff40. Freehand draw the pant fold. Edit the nodes and convert to raster layer. Apply Cutout  
   
Merge the layers down to the right-leg layer. Cut and copy as a new layer. Image/ mirror image and place it to the opposite side. Delete the right-leg, right-foot and right-sole.  
   
Unhide the right-arm. Image/ Flip. Image/ Free rotate/ Direction left/ 75 degrees.  
   
Pen tool/ Freehand/ foreground and fill color to #018b01. Freehand draw the sleeve. Edit the nodes and convert to raster layer. Make the layer. selected and apply cutout, change the blur to 30.     
   
Change the foreground and fill color to #40ff40. Freehand draw the cuff. Edit the nodes and convert to raster layer.Make the layer selected and apply cutout, change the blur to 15.    
   
Merge the layer down to the right arm. Copy and paste as a new layer. Image/ mirror image. Place the image to the opposite side. Delete the left-arm and left-hand.
   
You should have an image that look similar to the image on the right.  
   
Click the head layer. Let's put a bow. Pen tool/ freehand/ foreground and fill color #000000. Freehand draw the bow. Edit the nodes. Add a small rectangle on the center and convert to raster layer.

Lighten/ darken brush size 2. Put highlights on the bow.

   
   
Pen tool/ foreground and fill color #51342a. Freehand draw the beard. Edit the nodes and convert to raster layer.  
   
Change the foreground and fill to #3efd01. Preset shape rectangle. Draw a rectangle above the head. Turn the rectangle slightly to the left. Edit the nodes and convert to raster layer.

Make the layer selected and apply cutout. Horizontal and Vertical 2/ Opacity 100/ Blur 40/ shadow color #254206. DESELECT

 
   
Change the foreground and fill color to #000000. Preset shape/ ellipse. Draw an ellipse on the hat, slightly turn it to the left. Edit the nodes and convert to raster layer. Apply drop shadow/ Vertical and Horizontal 1/ Opacity 50/ Blur 2/ shadow color #ffffff.
